Not Being A Snob; Just Really Confused.

We all know that I enjoy Oprah, right?  I’m kind of a sheep when it comes to Oprah, but today, she’s letting me down.  I’m totally lost.  Someone please try to explain this fellow Robin Thicke to me.

Now, my television just told me that he is a “Grammy-winning artist” and according to iTunes, he currently has the 53rd most popular album, and Oprah claims he’s good but, um… I just heard him sing a terrible song in a terrible way and I’m pretty confused.  The sounds that he was making were, to my ears, a mix between a particularly awful American Idol audition and the tiny whimpers that Little Sammy makes when I try to give him his medicine.  The lyrics were no better; they were something to the effect of “would that make you love me?”  whined over and over and over again.

Someone help me.  He’s singing ANOTHER SONG on Oprah right now.  It sounds exactly like the first one except that this one features a piano and has different, but equally annoying repeating lyrics (“she’s not complicated, I’m too complicated”).  Still making the sad Little Sammy squeaks and just did a Taylor Hicks-ish “woo.”  I’m scarred.

I get that he’s Alan Thicke’s son and he’s not ugly, but… whoa.  Oprah just told me that I will love every cut on this CD and the audience is hooting and hollering like they believe her!  What is going on here?  And he’s on tour with Beyonce?  I have a new celebrity  mystery.  What is going on?!

I suspect that Alan Thicke has naked photos of someone. Not sure who, but it's the only explanation I can wrap my head around.

Agreed. Are the naked pictures maybe of Oprah? Or Gayle, maybe? Oprah is clearly in on the conspiracy.

I have never heard of this person and I am usually at least *aware* of that which Oprah touts. I'll agree with the Naked Photo theory, but really don't like seeing the words "naked" and "alan thicke" in the same sentence.

I heard Robin Thicke on Big Boy in the Morning and agree with the naked photo theory, because you could tell Big Boy was like, "um, isn't this a hip hop station? Please make this man's singing stop" on the inside and was all, "So, did your dad get a lot of action while you were growing up?" on the outside.

Please do not judge me for listening to Big Boy in the Morning, I can;t explain it but I love him.

Robin Thicke scares me almost as much as the concept of "In the Thicke of the Night" does.

Every time I hear "Old Time Rock and Roll", I picture Mike and Jason Seaver hovering over a key and belting it out in their lame duet from "Growing Pains". Horrifying.

I can't believe I just made this connection but maybe Oprah is blind when it comes to all people named Robin. How else to explain her support for both Robin Thicke and the ridiculous Dr. Robin? All Dr. Robin ever does is throw out pop-psychology cliches to the poor people on the show - doesn't everyone watching Oprah already know that you have to love yourself before anyone else will love you? Hopefully, Dr. Robin will eventually go away like my other least favorite Oprah contributor, Dr. Gary Zukav.

I take it that all these negative responses is because you're all very much out of touch with todays music. You sound like my parents did when I was a teen. Lighten up!
