The News We've All Been Waiting For | Main | A Really Long Update Listing the Books I've Read So Far This Year
Summer Season
I have been really remiss in not updating y’all on our concert schedule.  I really should write up a proper reviewafter each show (if for no other reason than to help Jake and me remember what we’ve seen) , but I always forget.  (For example, I think I neglected to ever post about how good the Belle and Sebastian/New Pornographers show was at the beginning of March.  The New Pornographers were much better when we saw them in October, with Neko, but Belle and Sebastian were great.)  We also saw Rhett Miller a couple of weeks ago and he was adorable as ever.  Jake left early, but Nora and I stayed until the very end and I enjoyed every minute of it.  The Rhett Miller show concluded our busy month or so where we had a concert every week, and our next show isn’t until next Thursday, when we will see the Strokes for the third time.  (I’m not wild about their latest album, but I love the first two and I have loved them both times we’ve seen them live.)  After that, we have nothing until May 16, when we’ll be seeing Jesse Malin at Iota.  (Sadly, I don’t think that he will bring his BFF D.R.A. with him.  Too bad.)  What’s after that — David Mead, a songwriter I love and adore, is playing at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, at the beginning of June, and there is no way that I will miss that.  We missed him when he played once in Columbia and I have not gotten over it.  He is wonderful, and if there was justice in this world, you would all know who he is already and love him too.  (Same with Ron Sexsmith.  Why isn’t he more famous?)  Likewise, I absolutely will not miss Tift Merritt at the Birchmere, and I really, really want to go see Fiona Apple and Damien Rice at Wolf Trap, too. (I’d really like to see Damien Rice at the Birchmere, but I love Wolf Trap and I think that could be a really interesting show.)  Maybe we’ll pretend it’s 1995 and go see Indigo Girls and Hootie and the Blowfish, too.  (In fact, I am pretty sure that I will make Jake go see Hootie.  Make fun all you want, but Hootie and the Blowfish are good and they could not be any nicer.  One of the best club shows I’ve ever seen was seeing Hootie play a "secret" show circa 1996 at the late Rockafella’s in Columbia, where they played for hours, including a whole bunch of cover songs.  They are an excellent cover band.) And, the only person I would go to Nissan Pavilion for is coming over Memorial Day weekend — the Boss himself.  We might be out of town that weekend, but if not, you can bet that we will make the trek out there and not even complain about it.Summer concert season is upon us, and I’m excited.
